History
St. John's Lutheran Church had its beginnings in 1884 as a few families gathered together in the home of H.F. Niederschulte. Throughout the years, St. John's has flourished in the city of Mexico, and by God's grace has faithfully gathered around the truth of God's Word, received the gifts of God's forgiveness, and celebrated the sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord's Supper for more than 130 years.
St. John's has a long history of serving the spiritual needs of the people of Mexico. From Sunday worship and Sunday school instruction to Vacation Bible School, youth groups, men's, women's and ministry to seniors has been a intentional part of our ministry.
In 1959 the members of St. John's were instrumental in planting a daughter congregation (Good Shepherd Lutheran Church) in the neighboring town of Centralia.
St. John's has been blessed with three separate church buildings throughout the years. Our current building was constructed in 1973 on 5 acres in the Northwest corner of town. An addition in 1993 provided a new kitchen, handicap accessible bathrooms, education rooms, and a multi-purpose gymnasium.
Fourteen men have served as pastor at St. John's.
